Dromos of Sphinx


Dromos of Sphinx in the temple of Luxor. The former Egyptians called it the " harem of Amon ". Kind of annexe of the temple of Karnak, that of Luxor was useful only at the time of the new year, when the procession of the god left Karnak to come to take part in the festival of Opet, most important of the Theban festivals. That explains its relatively modest surface (260 m out of 58 m) and long dromos lined with sphinx with heads of rams which connected it to the temple of Karnak.
