This field of ruins of approximately 130 hectares, of
which the temple itself occupies hardly the tenth part, is one of the greatest
holy sets in the world. The quadrangular unfired brick enclosure makes 2,4 km
length and reached 8 meters thickness. A 2000 year old building site was started
with the Middle Empire and was given up at the ptolemaic time. Each Pharaoh
wants to embellish the field of Amon-Râ. From the XVIIIth dynasty to XXth
dynasty, it is the golden age: back from their campaigns in Africa and Asia, the
Pharaohs offer the main of their spoils to the Hamon god who led them to the
victory; they make raise in its honor new pylons, new obelisks, new
colossuses...
